Detailed Instructions for

Finding New Market Tax Credit Eligible Census Tracts

The 1st Step is to go to the Michigan Magnet Fund web page at http://www.aabds.com/Michigan%20Magnet%20Fund.htm

And follow the instructions. The first step of which is to click on census bureau site with your mouse.

This will take you directly to the web page and enter the address of the site and click on Go.  Here we have just entered 237 Main Street in Grand Rapids as an arbitrary location to use as an example.

This will take you to Census site.  Look up the number under Census Tract.  In our example it is Census Tract 21

Now return to the Magnet Fund Web page and click on attached excel table. This will take you to a table containing all of the census tracts in Michigan.  We left all of the census tract on the list in order to create a positive feedback that a property isn’t eligible as well as eligible

This is the Excel Spread Sheet listing every Census Tract in Michigan.  We colored all of the eligible sites in yellow and all of the non-eligible sites gray.

Click on the arrow in the MSA NAME heading and go to the appropriate MSA which in our case is Grand RapidsMuskegonHolland MSA. Click on it. This will narrow the list to only Grand Rapids MSA properties.

Next go to the Census Tract column and look for the number of the Census Tract.  In our case it is Tract 21.  Click on it with your mouse.

As you can see from our example, Census Tract 21 in Grand Rapids is an eligible New Market Tax Credit Census Tract (otherwise known as a Qualified Low Income Community (QLIC).  If it was a gray line, it would not be eligible.
